Watch: New video of Xioami's ‘unfolding’ foldable smartphone
The video was posted on Xioami's official Weibo account.
We started this year with two big brands in Samsung and Huawei, launching their latest range of foldable smartphones. This gives us a bit of an insight into the smartphone trend of the upcoming year. As we can see, the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X both differ in terms of their design. Samsung's foldable smartphone can be opened up like a notebook, whereas, the Mate X folds outwards. Check out these links to find out more about the Huawei Mate X and Samsung Galaxy Fold.
Xioami, Oppo, Vivo and a few other companies are also planning to release their foldable smartphones in the market. We already have seen a leaked video of Xiaomi's foldable device and there are a few more foldable smartphones on the way.
We can see in the video that the foldable smartphone by Xiaomi has two hinges and is divided into three parts as compared to other foldable smartphones we have seen so far. Samsung and Huawei's foldable smartphones, even though they differ in design, come with a single hinge on which the smartphone folds/unfolds.
We don't know when Xiaomi is going to launch their foldable smartphone but we can expect it to be officially announced later this year. Samsung and Huawei’s smartphones look to be priced at a premium range, surpassing the cost of Apple devices. We have seen two different structural designs from two major companies and new ones are expected be introduced later this year. The future is a little unclear with the advent of the folding smartphone, but one thing we can definitely say is that this trend is here to stay.
