World Cup 2019: BCCI To Announce India’s Squad on April 15
The World Cup will commence from May 30 in England and Wales. India takes on South Africa in their opening game of the tournament on June 5.
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) and BCCI office bearers decided to select the 15-member Indian squad for the ICC World Cup 2019 during a meeting held in Mumbai.
Though the last date for announcing the World Cup squad is April 23rd, the BCCI has decided to announce it eight days prior to the scheduled day.
It is believed that the selectors wanted the players included in the squad to have more time to mentally prepare themselves for the big tournament.
India skipper Virat Kohli is most likely to attend the meeting as he will be in the city to lead his IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Mumbai Indians on the same evening.
Though Kohli said that performances in the IPL would have no bearing on India’s World Cup selection, there were still doubts over the number four batsman and the fourth fast bowler.
Hence, the selectors have been waiting to watch the performance of some of the players in the ongoing IPL.
While most of the players pick themselves, Ambati Rayudu and Rishabh Pant are the two main contenders for the No.4 slot in the batting department. While Rayudu has flattered to deceive in this edition of the IPL, Pant has shown his brilliance in flashes. But, his inability to finish games has been something that pundits have spoken about time and again in this season of the IPL.
Vijay Shankar is another player who could be looked at as an option, considering that he has been looking to bat up in the order for Sunrisers Hyderabad in this IPL.
The fourth pacer's slot is something that the selectors will be sweating over as someone like Navdeep Saini, who has been very impressive in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore, hitting the 150 km/h needle with fairly good accuracy.
The World Cup will commence from May 30th in England and Wales. India takes on South Africa in their opening game of the tournament on June 5th.
