Watch The World's Largest Aircraft Taking Off Successfully
The world's largest aircraft has been built by Stratolaunch Systems Corporation and is called the Stratolaunch.
The Stratolaunch, the first aircraft, has successfully completed its first flight. Built by Stratolaunch Systems Corporation, the aircraft took its first flight at 0658 PDT (7:28pm IST on Saturday) from the Mojave Air and Space Port. The flight duration extended to 2.5 hours over the Mojave Desert in North America and it landed safely at Mojave Air and Space Port. Watch the video of the Stratolaunch taking its first flight:
The aircraft has a dual-fuselage design, which means it has two central body parts supported by a wingspan greater than the length of an American football field. The Stratolaunch went up to an altitude of 17,000 feet and successfully completed standard aircraft testing exercises. Some of the standard aircraft testing exercises include roll doublets, yawing maneuvers, pushovers and pull-ups, and steady heading side slips. Also, the center wing of the Stratolaunch can support multiple launch vehicles, weighing up to a total of 500,000 pounds.
The aircraft also conducted landing approach exercises at a maximum altitude of 15,000 feet mean sea level. It is expected to enable airline-style (a special arrangement of seats) access to space that is expected to be convenient, affordable and routine.
