A Chennai nightclub at the Slate Hotels accused the two of upsetting other customers by their behaviour.
The Supreme Court may have ruled that same sex relations are not criminal, while repealing section 377 of the penal code. But as a recent development in Chennai indicates, the ground reality is quite different.
Rasika Gopalakrishnan from Chennai posted on an incident on her Facebook page a few days ago.
Rasika went with her friend Shivangi Singh to a pub in Nungambakkam's posh Khader Nawas Khan Road. Like the other romantic couples, they danced on stage, clapping their hands. What happened is best described by her above.
It must have been traumatic... and humiliating to have four male bouncers and a female bouncer waiting outside the restroom.
When asked why the manager wanted them to leave, they were told they were acting in a way that upset other customers. The manager said he had CCTV footage of the two in private. When asked to see it, he refused.
Shivangi Singh has stated on Facebook page that she questioned why so many male couples were allowed on stage.
The incident has shocked the LGBTQ community and supporters in Chennai.
