The Weekly Movie Show | Manikarnika: the Queen Of Jhansi
The film has an amazing start and establishes who Manikarnika is and what her qualities are, and Kangana Ranaut is very convincing as Rani Lakshmibai.
At the beginning of the movie, they make it clear that they have taken liberties when it comes to historical facts. And I feel it's completely okay, as long the liberties are limited. But why get some of the finest actors on board and not give them the opportunity to act? Actors like Danny Denzongpa, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Atul Kulkarni, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub, Jisshu Sengupta, and Ankita Lokhande have underwritten characters and end up looking like props to the queen.
As for Kangana Ranaut, she steals the show with her acting, but definitely not as a director. The film does not have depth as far as the narration is concerned. The film just tries to give you a broad understanding of Rani Lakshmibai, who as we all know was a great warrior and also a great leader. Apart from that, I don’t feel the plot had anything more to offer.
