There is an urgent need to have a substantive law to define, validate and administer all legal surveillance activity in the country.
In a reply in Parliament, the Government has revealed that its agencies want to track the Internet and mobile activity of Indians. A centralized monitoring system is being established for the purpose, so that in the future government officials can carry out surveillance directly without seeking assistance from a telecom operator.
