Actor Sonu Sood on Wednesday launched an app to assist workers in finding the right job opportunities in various sectors across the country.
Sood, who received widespread appreciation for his efforts to help migrant workers reach their homes amid the COVID-19 pandemic, said that the new free online platform called 'Pravasi Rojgar' will provide all necessary information and right access to find jobs. The 47-year-old actor said that while arranging travel for migrants workers, their conversations would often revolve around how they were looking for the right work opportunity amid the pandemic.
The app will also be offering specific job training programmes such as spoken English coaching.
"We have a website and an app. We will have people on ground, to help workers register themselves. We will also have a helpline number where they can call and register themselves, tell us about their skill sets and the ones they need to acquire. We will create their profiles, train them and help them reach potential employers. Right now, they don’t know kaam kidhar milega. And people who need labour don’t know where and how to find it. The idea is to make this an end-to-end exercise for people seeking work from the grassroot level without charging them a rupee for it," the actor said.
"Lot of thinking, planning and preparation have gone into designing this initiative over the last few months, in order to ensure that it is holistic and builds on the work already being done in the country.Extensive consultations have been held with top organisations that're involved at the grassroots level in skilling and placing the youth below the poverty line, NGOs, philanthropic organisations, government functionaries, strategy consultants, technology start ups and above all the returned migrants whom I have helped," Sood added.
The initiative will be supported by community outreach in villages to help migrant workers find the right employment opportunities in different parts of the country. A 24x7 helpline have been set up in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad and Thiruvananthapuram.
According to the statement, over 500 companies across the fields of construction, apparel, healthcare, engineering, BPOs, security, automobile, e-commerce and logistics sectors will offer job opportunities on the app.
