Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested singer Varun Upadhyay, whose song, 'Jo na bole Jai Shri Ram, usko bhejo kabristan' [Who does not says Jai Shriram, send him to the graveyard], uploaded on YouTube has generated a huge controversy and enraged many for its incitment of violence.
According to reports in the media, he was arrested from Gonda. A case was registered against them in Hazratganj police station of Lucknow.
For the last several days, the video of this song went viral on social media. Following the increasing incidents of mobs lynching, people denounced the video, and demanded action against the artist. In this regard, lawsuits were filed in many places.
Congress leader Tehsin Poonawala tweeted about the arrest of the singer by the Uttar Pradesh.
Tehsin Poonawala had complained about this song to the Delhi Police. In a tweet, he wrote that he had asked for charges under section 152 (a) and 295 (a) of the IPC. This song provokes violence against Indian citizens.''
Media reports quoted Lucknow police SSP Kalanidhi Naithani as saying the cyber cell of Lucknow had alerted them about the provocative video that was uploaded on the YouTube channel.
Bahar, along with two other men involved in composing the song with Bahar, were also been detained.
