You've seen her play a rosy-eyed lover in Aashiqui 2, a bubbly girl-next-door in Ek Villain, and a dance goddess in ABCD 2, but how well do you really know Shraddha Kapoor? Here are eight things we learned about the actress from her interviews over the last decade — she made her acting debut in Teen Patti (2010). From her favourite meal to her shopping quirks, don't miss these interesting things-to-know about Shraddha Kapoor.
1. She had considered a career as a psychologist
Always a rebel, Shraddha Kapoor remembers baulking at being told she would end up in the movies. In an interview, she said, “From the time I was a child, I was told I would be an actor. Deep down I did know that too, but I was rebellious. I went to Jamnabai Narsee School, and then the American School, where my grades were really good. My parents weren't keen on me going abroad to study, but I was adamant, so I took off for Boston University. I started getting film offers on a summer break here, so I never returned. But I really enjoyed my psychology class.”
2. She fan-girls over Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sanjay Leela Bhansali
In 2016, when actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas featured on the list of 100 Most Influential People for Time Magazine and was also on the cover, Shraddha Kapoor had tweeted about her achievement by terming it, “WOHOOOO! Unstoppable!!!” In various interviews, Kapoor has also shared that she feels that Priyanka Chopra Jonas has consistently proved herself with her work. “Who else marches to her own music? She [Priyanka Chopra] does exactly what she wants. As for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, I would do any role he offered me. He's on my directors' dream list,” Shraddha Kapoor said in an interview.
3. She's a wide-eyed explorer
This city girl has quite the adventure streak. “I'm a certified Advanced Scuba Diver. My favourite holiday was spent on a dive boat in the Maldives. I also love Ladakh, where we froze living in tents. I am both a beach and a mountain person," Shraddha Kapoor shared in an interview.
4. He may have been the villain on-screen, but at home father Shakti Kapoor is a pacifist
Shraddha Kapoor has lived a sheltered life — her parents are actor Shakti Kapoor and Shivangi Kolhapure, sister of actresses Padmini Kolhapure and Tejaswini Kolhapure — but she has managed to carve out her freedom. “I discuss my projects with my parents but ultimately the decision lies with me. They aren't critical about my choices; it's my two aunts who give me feedback,” the actress shared in an interview. Is it hard for them to read about their little girl in not-so-flattering terms? “Every time there's a story linking me to a costar, my father is calm. I get hysterical, but he says it's all part of the game,” said Shraddha Kapoor.
5. She is buddies with a Student Of The Year star
“My father made many movies with Varun Dhawan's dad. We have grown up together,” Shraddha Kapoor shared in an interview. She considers herself a girl's girl, and in her group of close-knit girlfriends, which includes event planner Eshanka Wahi, designer Ankita Choksey, divorce lawyer Shraddha Shroff Garg, Mallika Iyengar and Rishita Shah, she is the keeper of all secrets. “I'm really good at that. When they get together, they hang out at home, occasionally stepping out for a night of clubbing,” said the actress.
6. She's an online shopping addict with a flip-flop obsession
“I'm all about buying basics — tracks and tees and flip-flops, which I have in dozens. My big splurge after my first pay cheque was a pair of Jimmy Choos. My dream is to be dressed by Chanel,” Shraddha Kapoor shared in an interview.
7. Her last meal would be seafood
Like every mother, Shraddha Kapoor's constantly chides her to eat better. “I'm so lazy about working out and I love to eat. My fridge is stocked with chocolate. I do try to eat dinner early and avoid too much rice.” Her dream meal would be fresh from the sea. “Maharashtrian food is my all-time favourite and my mother makes it best—fish biryani, prawn pickle, fried fish and dal. When I step out in Mumbai, I love Wasabi. When I'm in London it's Nobu, Ping Pong and Cipriani.”
8. She's not a television junkie
“I just don't enjoy it. In my downtime, I meet friends, get a head massage from my mum, watch films with family (Andaaz Apna Apna, Chaalbaaz, and Home Alone were childhood family favourites) or catch up on some reading,” said Shraddha Kapoor. Recent reads include Gregory David Roberts' Shantaram, JD Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye, and Rhonda Byrne's The Secret.
