Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Lady Gaga and others come together to raise funds for COVID-19
The live event is aimed at raising money to buy much-needed protective gear for health workers, improve research and development of vaccines and better lab facilities.
Advocacy group Global Citizen and the World Health Organization (WHO) announced One World: Together At Home, a globally televised event in support of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic on Monday. The Live-Aid-style event will be televised and broadcast live on social media on April 18 at 8 PM ET.
Bollywood actors Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan will be a part of this virtual event organized by WHO, in collaboration with American pop star Lady Gaga.
The event will be live-streamed and will feature performances by celebrities like Elton John, Lizzo, J Balvin, Billie Eilish, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, and others. The event will also have appearances by David Beckam and Idris Alba, who is currently under self-quarantine after being diagnosed with the coronavirus.
This comes after several artists like Chris Martin, John Legend, Charlie Puth, etc. have hosted "Together at Home", an Instagram Live series where artists perform to raise funds.
Fundraisers like these are not a new phenomenon. In the past, similar concerts like Live Aid and the Madison Square Garden Concert for Bangladesh have helped raise funds to fight against issues that matter.
