Shah Rukh Khan’s Netflix trailer with David Letterman wins over internet. Watch here
In case you missed it, Twitter celebrated the trailer of Shah Rukh Khan's much-anticipated Netflix special with David Letterman by freaking out over their witty conversations and cooking session at the actor's Mumbai home.
Shah Rukh Khan is interviewed in the second season of David Letterman's Netflix talk show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. And it’s the most candid version of the Bollywood superstar we’ve seen in a long time. Aside from touching on an array of interesting topics, the actor's hour-long special with Letterman seems to be marked by a whole lot of charm. On Wednesday, Khan shared the trailer of his appearance on a special episode of the popular American TV host's talk show, which will premiere on Netflix on October 25. The promo clip tweeted by Khan was accompanied by a caption that read, "The most fun I’ve had being interviewed. Thank u so much @Letterman for being so gracious and all happiness. U r a gentleman sir ! Also @netflix & @NetflixIndia for having me over at NY."
The minute-long footage begins with David Letterman introducing the jovial, insightful Bollywood actor to a screaming audience as "the most popular movie star in the world." And it seems accurate. Shah Rukh Khan, also known as SRK, who turns 54 in November, has been in the movies for more than half of his life, working around the clock, famously subsisting on a diet rich in nicotine, good spirits and astonishingly little sleep. Adoration finds him everywhere. While, in this cinema-crazed nation, fans hand him letters and gifts, internationally too the hordes of Shah Rukh Khan fans have multiplied over the years. Nations have followed suit: the French have even awarded him their highest civilian honour, the Légion d'honneur.
Not surprisingly then, Shah Rukh Khan's episode on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction has garnered much attention, as David Letterman has himself admitted. "There's something about that man that has made it a different experience," he said, while talking about SRK in the trailer. The American talk show host also said that this was the most fun he has ever had on his show. My Next Guest Needs No Introduction’s first season featured in-depth interviews with Barack Obama, George Clooney, Malala Yousafzai, Jay-Z, Tina Fey, and Howard Stern, while the second featured Kanye West, Melinda Gates, Lewis Hamilton, Ellen DeGeneres and Tiffany Haddish.
What sets David Letterman’s interview apart from others the actor has done in the past couple of years is that the TV host is largely successful at connecting with Shah Rukh Khan on many topics, from cooking Italian food together to celebrating Eid at Mannat, the actor's family home in Mumbai. The recently-released trailer takes us out of the studio, as Letterman pays a visit to the lavish Mumbai mansion that Khan shares with his wife, interior designer Gauri Khan, and their three children — Aryan, Suhana and Abram Khan. When Letterman visited India in June 2019, he along with a white pathani suit-clad Khan greeted his fans at Mannat on Eid and also cooked some Italian food in the actor's kitchen. In the trailer, Khan is also seen teaching his signature dance move to Letterman. Yep, we definitely have a lot to look forward to.
The trailer doesn't reveal too many details about the episode beyond a few fun moments between the two, but it was still more than enough to get Shah Rukh Khan fans excited. To be fair to the fans though, the trailer is the perfect mixture of funny and sweet. Many took to social media to react to the upcoming Netflix episode. Here’s some of the best of what they posted.

My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman will be presented as a stand-alone special on Netflix and combines two interests for which Letterman is renowned: In-depth conversations with extraordinary people, and in-the-field segments expressing his curiosity and humour. Shah Rukh Khan reportedly shot for the show in New York on May 16 in the presence of a live audience. At the time, Khan had tweeted, “I’ve watched David Letterman’s late-night talk show for years and I’m a huge fan of his style of interviewing. I’m thrilled and honoured to share my story with him. That this is on Netflix is even more special – I’m working with the team on various projects and it’s always been exciting partnering with them.”
Meanwhile, recently, a throwback video of Shah Rukh Khan from his anchoring days on Doordarshan had surfaced on social media. In the video, Khan is seen inviting singer Kumar Sanu on the stage to croon to one of his tracks. Before Khan became a standout star in the film industry, he starred in several television series. The actor, who became a household name after featuring in the show Fauji, also signed up for anchoring gigs, when he was just starting his career. A clip from that era, in which Khan can be seen co-anchoring a New Year's Eve show on Doordarshan has taken over the internet. Watch the nostalgic video of Shah Rukh Khan above. The clip was shared on Instagram page Bollywood Direct, which often shares throwback posts of Bollywood celebrities. In the widely-shared video, Shah Rukh Khan, dressed in a pair of baggy trousers and shirt, introduces singer Kumar Sanu (who was in vogue in the nineties) on stage by saying, "Kumar Sanu, wohi hai jo Kishore Kumar ke andaaz main gaatey hain?"
