Roger Federer becomes the first living person to feature on Swiss coins
Roger Federer has won more Grand Slam singles titles than any other male player.
Tennis legend and arguably the G.O.A.T Roger Federer is all set to become the first living person to be celebrated on a swiss coin. The Federal Mint, Swissmint, will release a 20 Swiss francs silver commemorative coin in January. The design of the coin has been released by the Swissmint and the 20-time Grand Slam champion can be seen delivering his trademark backhand in it.
"The Federal Mint Swissmint is honouring Roger Federer and, for the first time in its history, dedicating a Swiss commemorative coin to a living person. This coin issue is expected to attract a lot of interest from around the world, so Swissmint has decided to open a pre-sale for the silver coin in "uncirculated" quality. From 2 to 19 December or while stocks last, the coin can be purchased via Swissmint's webshop; payment is by credit or debit card only", said the Swissmint on their website.
Swissmint confirmed that 55,000 of the coins will be produced and will be available for pre-order from Tuesday until December 19. It plans to add a Federer SFr50 gold coin in May as well.
Roger took to Twitter to share his excitement and gratitude. "Thank you Switzerland and Swissmint for this incredible honour and privilege," said the 38-year-old world number three.
