Rappers Rada and Buck drop new single ‘8/12’ to redefine the sound of Pune hip-hop
In the track, the artists talk about the day that gave them a clear vision of the sound they want to pursue and made them understand what it means to be an artist in the truest sense.
Earlier this month, Pune based rappers Rada and Buck released their latest single ‘8/12’ on all streaming platforms. The track is a taste of the current conscious, lo-fi inspired sound of the Pune rap scene, spearheaded by artists like That Dude Aj and Vedang. The track talks about how the most important thing is not the fame or the money, but learning as much as you can about your craft.

The beat produced by Yatin is filled with electric pianos and lo-fi drums which give perfect ground for the rappers to flow on. In the track, the artists talk about the day that gave them a clear vision of the sound they want to pursue and made them understand what it means to be an artist in the truest sense. This feeling is embodied by this line in the second verse: “Star-vaar nahi, banna kalakaar hai” (I wanna be an artist, not a star).
The lyrics paint grand, vivid images, something similar to German expressionist paintings of the 20th century. The heartfelt production makes it easy for the words to take life. Constant whispers in the ad-libs are in line with the cosy and atmospheric nature of the track. Same can be said about the horns playing in the background, providing the melodic base of the track.
