Water existed on Mars around 4.5 billion years ago but now the only evidence that indicate this are dry riverbeds, ancient shorelines, and salty surface. What has caused the water to disappear from the Martian surface?
Whatever be the reasons, scientists believe that understanding the behavior of sand dunes will help us know about the ancient climate on Mars, how the sand dunes shifted and more. Even if we find that sand dunes didn’t shift, one of the reasons can be the difference between winds swirling dust around in the atmosphere and winds on the surface, they both are not same.
