NBA Playoffs: Houston Rockets Qualify For Semi-Finals In An Absolute Thriller
The Utah Jazz were eliminated from the playoffs as the LA Clippers won their 5th game against the Golden State Warriors, with the series hanging at 3-2.
On Thursday, the Houston Rockets secured a berth in the playoffs, winning their third consecutive playoff game against the Utah Jazz. Of the 7 game playoff format, the series stands at 4-1, with Utah Jazz being knocked out of the playoffs. At Downtown Los Angeles, reigning NBA champions the Golden State Warriors missed the opportunity to break into the semi-finals, losing their game to the LA Clippers.
A Nail-Biting Finish By the Houston Rockets
James Harden was the stand-out player of the night, scoring a match-winning 26 points, including 6 rebounds and assists. At the Toyota Center in Houston, the Utah Jazz were leading, going into the second half. The game was neck-to neck as both teams were intercepting balls, scoring transitional three pointers and some unorthodox dunking.
Golden State Warriors get smashed in their 5th game
At the Oracle Arena in California, the Golden State Warriors wasted the opportunity to qualify for the semi-finals, losing against the Utah Jazz. The series was standing at 3-1 before the fifth game, and a win would have sent the Warriors into the semi-finals. But, the Utah Jazz made a stunning comeback after winning two consecutive games in the Warriors home turf.
The away side was leading the scoreboard until the fourth quarter, when the Golden State Warriors’ Kevin Durant scored a series of sensational baskets, giving them the lead over the LA Clippers. Unfortunately, the lead did not last too long, as Lou Williams, the shooting guard of the Utah Jazz, smashed the opposition with his free throws.
This is the first time since 2016 that the Golden State Warriors have lost consecutive home playoff games. The last time it happened was against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The final score ended in a 129-121 losing effort and the defending champions need to win any one of their remaining two games to qualify for the playoffs. On Friday, the San Antonio Spurs will be facing the Denver Nuggets in their sixth game of the playoffs. The game is scheduled at 5:30am IST.
