Magsaysay Award to Ravish Kumar is good news for Indian journalism in tough times
He is most vocal on insisting that the professional values of sober, balanced, fact-based reporting be upheld in practice, says the citation of the Award.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation has honoured Ravish Kumar, Indian journalist with NDTV news channel with the 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Award for "harnessing journalism to give voice to the voiceless."
The four other winners for this years Award are Ko Swe Win from Myanmar, Angkhana Neelapaijit from Thailand, Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab from Philippines and Kim Jong-Ki from South Korea.
The Award acclaims Ravish’s "unfaltering commitment to a professional, ethical journalism of the highest standards." Asiaville talked to fellow journalists and editors in Delhi to know more about his style of journalism and how it impacts the popular perceptions.
