Crowds, chants and chariots: Experience world-famous Madurai Chithirai festival in 360° VR video

Dive into a 360° Virtual Reality (VR) video experience of the car festival at the Chithirai festival honouring Lord Sundareswarar and Goddess Meenakshi Amman in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
This year, April 18 was the day of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar ‘Ther Thiruvizha’ or car festival. ‘Chithirai Thiruvizha’ is an annual Hindu festival celebrated during the Tamil month of Chithirai, which usually comes during April.
As part of the festival celebrations, enactment of the coronation of Goddess Meenakshi Amman, an incarnation of Shakti and her marriage to Lord Sundareswarar, an incarnation of Shiva is held.
The day after the celestial wedding, both Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar, regarded the king and queen, lead a procession on the streets of Madurai in a magnificent chariot to greet the people.
