A compilation of images from the flood affected 'Rice Bowl' of Kerala
Kuttanad is colloquiolly called the Rice Bowl of Kerala - a vast, verdant district in Alappuzha with paddy fields that stretch as far as the eye can see.
This year, Kuttanad was flooded by the Kerala rains - not because it faced heavy rainfall; in fact the rainfall was merely moderate. However, the district is low-lying, and as such, even moderate rains took their toll.
