Kerala allocates Rs 3 crore to WCC to fight patriarchy in Malayalam film industry
Women in Cinema Collective was formed in 2017 after an actor was allegedly sexually assaulted by actor Dileep.
The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has had a rough road while attempting to tackle male domination and aggression within the Malayalam film industry. From sexual assaults to online slander, the women workers of the industry were insulted for taking a stand. While the parent organisation Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) tried to protect the perpetrators, Kerala finance minister Thomas Isaac – in an unexpected move – allocated Rs 3 crore to the collective to fight patriarchy in the industry.
