The dramatic saga of the trust vote in the Karnataka Assembly continues today. Last night, the BJP MLAs slept on the floor of the House, staging a dharna for an immediate vote.
The Congress-JD(S) government have been accused by the BJP of procrastinating and wilfully delaying the test vote. CM Kumaraswamy moved for the vote yesterday morning, but the entire session was filled with points of order raised by different members of the Congress-JD(S) government.
In the face of the worsening crisis and the imminent threat of stagnation, the Governor of Karnataka, Vajubhai Vala, has instructed the Kumaraswamy government to prove their majority on the floor of the House before 1.30 PM today.
The Treasury Bench demands an adjournment; the Deputy Speaker who is in Chair refuses.
Siddaramaiah suggests that the vote is postponed until Monday. The BJP is responding.
J C Madhuswamy: We cannot do anything to ask the rebel MLAs to return. That is as per the direction of the SC.

BJP demands the confidence vote should be taken up today itself. Kumaraswamy has suggested that they conclude on Monday, but the BJP MLAs are standing strong. We are now beyond the Governor's extended deadline.

KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao moves SC claiming that SC's July 17 order, which directed that 15 rebel MLAs cannot be compelled to attend Assembly, violated the party's right under Tenth Schedule to issue whip to its MLAs.

As was the case yesterday, 20 MLAs continue to be absent today.
Shrimant Patil is still hospitalised over health concerns. Karnataka Police have arrived at his hospital bed to record a statement.
CM Kumaraswamy spoke in the Assembly, and said it was not official positions he was interested in. He made the point that there have been repeated attempts to dethrone him, by dragging him into fights over the past few weeks.
His speech was brief and he yielded his time.

Six Congress MPs give Adjournment Motion Notice in Lok Sabha over "encroachment on democratic institutions".
BJP Chief Whip Suresh Kumar: "If the trust vote doesn't happen by 1.30 pm we will approach the Supreme Court or even go to the President of India. All options are open. Congress and JDS bringing up frivolous issues to cause delay [in trust vote]. Hope good sense prevails on them".
