From Kareena Kapoor To Akshay Kumar, Bollywood Makes A Comeback With Cop Drama
With more and more actors donning the uniform for their upcoming films, Bollywood seems to be making a comeback with the cop drama.
Of late Bollywood has been producing multiple political films and biopics of famous personalities. Another genre that has seemed to have found its way back into Bollywood is the cop drama.
If there is any film that gave a boost to cop dramas after the 90s, it was Ajay Devgn’s Singham which brought cop-dramas back into the limelight. It turned a campy sub-genre into a product that caters to the masses.
With two successful stints, the third movie in the Rohit Shetty Cinematic Universe (*cough*) featured Ranveer Singh. Simmba was released in 2018 and was well received by both the audience and critics alike. The film was a complete entertainer and definitely gave a boost to the cop drama genre.
Bollywood seems to be taking a shine to this genre as 2019 and 2020 will see some more actors donning the khakee.
Here’s a look at the actors who will be playing a cop in their upcoming films:
Towards the end of Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, Akshay Kumar’s character in Sooryavanshi was introduced. He steps into the big shoes of Anti-Terrorism Squad Chief Veer Sooryavanshi. The film will reunite Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif after a decade.
Salman Khan is returning with the third instalment of Dabangg. His character, Chulbul Pandey will have a new nemesis, played by Sudeep. The film is being directed by Prabhudeva and will be releasing in December of 2019.
Kareena Kapoor Khan:
The actress plays a boss cop in Homi Adajania’s Angrezi Medium, opposite Irrfan Khan.
In Karan Kapadia’s debut film Blank, the actor-filmmaker (and now politician) will be seen playing an ATS chief trying to neutralise a suicide bomber.
Rani Mukherji who had done a rather impressive job with Mardaani, is back with the second instalment of the film. The second look of the film was unveiled and the actress looks every bit the character.
The Thalaiva will be donning the uniform for AR Murgadoss’s Darbar. Rajini has previously played similar characters in Hum, Geraftaar, Ram Robert Rahim, Kodi Parakuthu, and Nattuku Oru Nallavan.
The actor who has largely been seen in slice of life comedies will be donning the khakee for the first time in Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15. The filming began in March and this is probably the first time the actor will be sporting a moustache.
Giving Akshay Kumar a run for his money in the patriotic film zone, the actor has been a part of films like Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran, Satyameva Jayate, and Romeo Akbar Walter. The actor will be donning the uniform for his upcoming film Batla House, which is being directed by Nikkhil Advani.
