At 50, Jennifer Lopez proves that age is just a number
Jennifer Lopez turned 50 on July 24. You'd be hard-pressed to look at the singer-actor without wondering momentarily what her secret is to achieving ageless beauty. We list eight things J.Lo does every day to look as youthful and healthy as she did years ago.
If anyone knows where the fountain of youth is, it’s Jennifer Lopez. The Hollywood actor, singer, and dancer turned 50 on July 24, but we literally had to reread that fact a few times just to make sure we were processing the information correctly. Especially after peeking at one of J.Lo’s latest Instagram posts and seeing her dance in a sheer bodysuit, flaunting the exact same enviably toned figure that's been making jaws drop for decades. In short? 50 has never looked so good. How does this mother-of-two continue to look so youthful after all of these years? Well, it certainly helps to have Jennifer Lopez's genes. However, the Hustlers actor – who celebrated her 50th birthday with a lavish star-studded Miami bash sporting a sexy, metallic cut-out dress – also has a no-nonsense approach to fitness to keep her looking camera-ready at all times.
J.Lo works hard for what she has achieved, whether that's an incredible gym body or evidently flawless skin. Most of her tips and tricks for looking and staying healthy are the typical recommendations you would hear from anyone with a grip on exercise, a healthy diet, and keeping their skincare routine on lock. But hey, if the advice is coming from J.Lo herself, then all the more reason to heed it, right? Read on to see how Jennifer Lopez manages to look as youthful, glowing, and healthy as she did years ago:
No alcohol, no smoking, no caffeine
Jennifer Lopez basically has zero vices, it seems. "I don't drink, or smoke, or have caffeine," she admitted to Hollywood Life. "That really wrecks your skin as you get older," she said.
J.Lo drinks tons of water to stay hydrated, especially before workouts. "First of all, hydrate. Drinking plenty of water, especially before a workout, can help you push harder and get more out of your exercise routine," Jennifer Lopez told Hello. Listen to her. If you're not sipping, you're slipping. So, don't forget to hydrate.
Feeling like superwoman after the show tonight! When I started this run I thought omg 15 shows in 27 days that’s a lot... but I made a promise to myself that instead of letting it wear me down I would be even stronger at the end of it...I will work out and be in the best shape of my life... There were moments I was tired and there was travel and I had to fit in my workouts where I could... but here we are with only 3 shows left!! And I am having so many emotions but mostly just feeling strong, happy and grateful!!! #allihavefinal15 #3showstogo #we’renotdoneyet #letsgoooo #makepromisestoyourselfandkeepthem @phvegas

No days off
Jennifer Lopez has been a fitness icon for over 20 years. In addition to her caffeine-free, alcohol-free, high-protein diet, J.Lo stays fit with variety and dedication to her workout routine. She reportedly uses a stability ball to enhance abs and arm exercises and also keeps her workout routine fun by bringing her boyfriend, former baseball player Alex Rodriguez, along, and incorporating activities that she loves, like dancing.
When she's on tour that means that part of her nightly dance routines are also part and parcel of her exercise routine. "I will work out and be in the best shape of my life," she promised herself (according to a recent workout post on Instagram. As for when she deigns to bless the gym with her presence? She's a first thing in the morning type of woman. J.Lo works out for as many days of the week as she can, embracing brief, intense sessions in the morning. "I don’t like doing it later; it’s harder to get there when I have my day going already," she told Hollywood Life. "I work out three or four times a week. When I’m in New York, I work out with David Kirsch — he’s an amazing trainer. When I’m in L.A., I work with Tracy Anderson. I like the balance that they both give me. They have two totally different approaches. I like switching it up with my body.”
Mindfulness and meditation
Working out your mind is just as important as working out your body, and that's something that Jennifer Lopez takes to heart with meditation, a practice she began in 2015. "Affirmations are so important," she told Well and Good. "I am youthful and timeless. I tell myself that every day, a few times a day. It sounds like such clichéd bullshit, but it's not; age is all in your mind."

Taking-off the makeup
Everyone has been saying this for years, but it's true: You cannot simply sleep in your makeup every single night and expect your skin to stay hydrated and glowing. It's just not realistic. Take it from Jennifer Lopez, who never sleeps without removing it. "I never go to bed without taking my makeup off, and I use night creams to keep my skin hydrated," she told People.
It's no secret that sunscreen can be a life saver. "I am a firm believer in SPF. I try not to stay out in the sun too long," Jennifer Lopez once told InStyle.
Again, this is something that is so obvious, as it's been repeated by countless people with perfectly healthy-looking skin, but please, make sure you get some sleep. In fact, it's so important that Jennifer Lopez has listed it as her number one tip. "The number one tip is to always get enough sleep. I can’t stress this enough," she told InStyle. The amount of sleep per night depends on the person (of course eight hours is the usual recommendation), but J.Lo admitted that if she could get more, she'd take advantage of that. "Ideally I would love to get nine or 10 hours of sleep, but either way, I always make sure I get at least eight," she said.
Whether or not you follow a vegetarian diet, you still need to incorporate some vegetables into your meals for a healthy glow. Jennifer Lopez is a strict believer that her healthy diet is what keeps her looking and feeling so good. "What you eat doesn't just affect your body; it can also affect the way your skin looks," she told Hello. Piling the right things on her plate also keeps her going through intense workouts. "We eat a lot of green vegetables, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, broccoli, and kale. I love to cook, I cook a lot of stuff, I love cooking Puerto Rican food because that's what I grew up on," J.Lo told DailyMail.
Jennifer often kicks off her day with a shake, she told People. Her go-to smoothie includes berries, Greek yogurt, cinnamon, honey, ice cubes, a squirt of fresh lemon juice, and a scoop of protein powder. For lunch, Jennifer usually opts for a veggie-filled salad, like with kale, toasted pumpkin seeds, minced shallots, and a dressing made with lemon juice and olive oil, according to People. She also whips up a salad with salmon, broccoli, peppers, zucchini, and a drizzle of vinaigrette. If she's at home, J.Lo sits down with her kids around 6:30 p.m. for dinner, Hollywood Life reported. Her dinner usually consists of a lean protein with more veggies and complex carbs like brown rice, sweet potatoes, or quinoa.
