IPL 2020 Auction: All you need to know about Indian Premier League’s player auction
The Indian Premier League has announced the details of all the 332 players up for the auction. Who all will the teams target?
The Indian Premier League’s player audition for the 2020 season is scheduled to take place on the 19th of December in Kolkata with several star players still up for grabs as the franchises get ready to shape their team.
971 players (713 Indians and 258 foreigners) had registered for the upcoming IPL auction out of which only 332 have been shortlisted by franchises. There will be 73 slots for eight teams to fill with a maximum of 29 overseas players who can be picked. The event will be a one-day affair and foreign players are expected to be the biggest attraction as most Indians have been retained by their teams.
When, where and how
The IPL auction 2020 will be held in Kolkata on December 19. This will be the first time Kolkata is hosting the event. As per the BCCI release, the IPL auction will start at 2:30 pm and will go on till late evening. The spectator-friendly times for the auction was introduced by the BCCI to draw maximum viewers to the most anticipated event before every IPL season. How to watch
The Indian Premier League auction will be telecast live on Star Sports channels as well as their streaming platform Hotstar. The broadcaster confirmed through a tweet that the auction will be aired on most of its channel. "December 19 from 2:30 PM, LIVE on Star Sports 1 Hindi/1 HD Hindi, Star Sports First, 1 Tamil, 1 Telugu, 1 Kannada, 1 Bangla; from 3:20 PM on Select 1/1 HD," read the Tweet.
Seven foreign players – Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Dale Steyn and Angelo Mathews have opted to be slotted in the highest reserve of ₹2 crore. Lynn and Maxwell are big hitters of the ball but teams might play it safe in the auction and try to pick the players up for a lower price later on.
Experienced robin Uthappa is the only Indian players with a base price of ₹ 1.5 crore. Other Indian stars, Piyush Chawla, Yusuf Pathan and Jaydev Unadkat have set their base price at ₹ 1 crore.
