A day after Indian Air Force struck a terror camp in Balakot across the Line of Control (LoC), three Pakistan Air Force F-16 jets on Wednesday, February 26 violated the Indian air space in Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district and in Poonch, but were pushed back by Indian aircraft, news agency PTI reported.

MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in a statement that the Indian Air Force has lost one MiG-21 and that a pilot is missing in action. He added that the Indian government is verifying claims made by Pakistan that the pilot is in their custody.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in his address said that the “sole purpose” to carry out strikes across LoC was to tell India that “if they can come here, we can go there too”. He added that two Indian MIG 21s which “crossed the LoC” were shot down.

Flights suspended, airports closed; closure lifted later
Update: The suspension of eight Indian airports—Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Shimla, Bhuntar, Gaggal—amid escalation of tension between India and Pakistan has been lifted.
