India's COVID-19 tally crosses 22-lakh mark with 62,064 new cases; 1,007 more deaths recorded
The COVID-19 death toll in India climbed to 44,386, the Health Ministry said. The recoveries surged to 15,35,743 with a record 54,859 more people recuperating in the past 24 hours, taking the recovery rate to 69.33 per cent.
India's novel coronavirus tally crossed the 22-lakh mark on Monday with 62,064 new cases, while the death toll climbed to 44,386 with 1,007 more fatalities, the Health Ministry said.
The recoveries surged to 15,35,743 with a record 54,859 more people recuperating in the past 24 hours, taking the recovery rate to 69.33 per cent. The case fatality rate has dropped to about 2 per cent, according to the Ministry.

This is the fourth consecutive day that India has recorded more than 60,000 fresh COVID-19 cases in a day. More than 2 lakh cases have been recorded since August 6 when the country's virus cases passed 20 lakh, just three weeks after crossing the 10 lakh mark.

As many as 4,77,023 samples were tested on Sunday, taking the total to 2,45,83,558, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.
India is the third worst-hit country by the coronavirus pandemic and it has been recording a bigger single-day jump in COVID-19 cases over the last six days than the US and Brazil, which have a higher caseload, according to the World Health Organization data.
Brazil has 30.3 lakh COVID-19 cases, about 8 lakh more than India, while the US has over 50.4 lakh cases.
