India slips in the latest Henley passport index ranking.
The Henley Company periodically publishes a ranking list assessing the influence of 199 passports around the world. The Henley Passport Chart for this quarter has been released. This chart lists how many countries a person can travel to without a visa. India currently ranks 86th, down 7 places compared to the previous report.
The point to note here is that 85 countries have a passport than get you to more places than an Indian one.
Henley Passport Rank
Japan and Singapore are number one in this ranking. They can travel to 189 countries around the world without a visa. It is followed by Finland, Germany and South Korea. They can travel to 187 countries without a visa. In third place are Denmark, Italy and Luxembourg. They can travel to 186 countries without a visa.
The United States and Britain rank sixth. Chinese passports are worth more than Indian. China ranks 74th in this ranking.
Value of Indian passport
In 2014, India was 76th; it fell to 85th place in 2016 and then improved to 81st in 2018. But it is currently down to 86 again.
With an Indian passport in 2018, you could go to 56 countries without a visa; it's now 58 countries.
In this ranking, India comes last among the BRICS countries. Brazil ranks 18th, Russia 51st and South Africa 54th.
