Rapper Hard Kaur booked for sedition for abusing Yogi Adityanath and RSS, Twitter reacts
Hard Kaur called Adityanath an "orange rape man" and held RSS responsible for the death of Mumbai police officer and 26/11 martyr Hemant Karkare.
UK-based rapper Hard Kaur has been booked for sedition criticising UP CM Yogi Adityanath and the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. In her multiple Facebook posts since June 18, Kaur called Adityanath an "orange rape man" and held RSS responsible for the death of Mumbai police officer and 26/11 martyr Hemant Karkare.
According to the ANI, Kaur has been booked under IPC Sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion), 500 (defamation), and other relevant acts.
FIR registered under sections 124A (Sedition), 153A, 500 ,505 of the Indian Penal Code and 66 IT Act against singer Hard Kaur for her comments against Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat. https://t.co/3XABzwKOJ6— ANI (@ANI) June 20, 2019
The FIR has been filed by Shashank Shekhar in Varanasi. According to reports, Shekhar is an RSS member who was hurt by these comments.
Social media, however, is divided on this issue. Many questioned invoking sedition for criticising the BJP and RSS leaders.
Hard Kaur has been charged with sedition and 'waging war against Indian state' for social media posts on Yogi and Mohan Bhagwat whereas no one was ever charged for burning her father alive, her house, her mother's beauty parlour in Kanpur in 1984. This is what Hard Kaur went through. No justice for a victim of a ghastly pogrom. And when she vents her anger, she is booked for sedition for a video in which she repeatedly shouted "read the constitution". Slow clap. https://t.co/2KLcx1q365— Aditya Menon (@AdityaMenon22) June 20, 2019
#HardKaur adityanath as home minister is responsible for the fact that the police force he controls has little or no understanding of the sedition law. this seems not just a bid to crack down on any criticism but also to frighten others who might consider doing so in the future— Hartosh Singh Bal (@HartoshSinghBal) June 20, 2019
People have a right to express dissent and criticise the government but every time people like @HardKaurWorld are slammed with sedition law in order to target the free voice. In solidarity with #HardKaur@bbcnewspunjabi @Dailypostpnbi— Kirtypal Singh (@KirtypalSingh) June 20, 2019
Whereas some called out Hard Kaur for her abusive language.
What if I post picture of anyone's mother/father/relatives calling them 'Rapist'/'Murderer' in social media just for my pleasure? FoE doesn't mean defaming anyone? #HardKaur— Abhay Varshney (@abhay_varshney7) June 20, 2019
#HardKaur used her freedom of speech. Now she is facing consequences. There is concept known as MALIGN SOMEONE CHARACTER without any proof. Let her face some LAW and order ISSUES.— Abhi_updates (@Abhi_updates) June 20, 2019
I know Hard Kaur is desperate for some jobs and attention, but this is not the proper way to seek so. You are maligning the image of a CM by calling him a rapist.Shame on you. @myyogiaditynath @vagishasoni @Priyankabjym @narendramodi @AmitShah @ShefVaidya @desimojito @AskAnshul pic.twitter.com/tBqeK5bgfe— Vishal Rai (@NoisYBoYVishaL) June 18, 2019
