#HappyBirthdayRahul: How Rahul Dravid became ‘The Wall’?, his best innings and more.
On Rahul Dravid’s 47th birthday, here’s how he got the tag ‘The Wall’ and also look at some of the best tweet wishes he has received.
Rahul Dravid is a synonym for class. We have all seen the sheer elegance of his game in all forms of cricket. It has been 8 years since Rahul retired from international cricket, but ‘the wall’ will always be remembered for his defensive knocks.
So, how did the name ‘the wall’ come about? Is it because he is good at defence in batting that makes it difficult to get him off the stumps? Well, that’s partially right. As per reports, it was a Reebok Ad campaign that named Rahul as the wall and it remained ever after.
Today, the man turns 47 and wishes poured in from across the globe. BCCI went nostalgic and remembered his highest knock against New Zealand: 153, his highest in the 50 over format. Rahul and Sachin together scored a massive score of 331.
He made his international debut in 1996 during India's Tour of England. Within no time, he also became the Indian team captain. He has overall played 164 tests, 334 ODIs and 1 T20I over a period of 16 years.
After his retirement from all forms of international cricket, Dravid chose to mentor and coach the junior cricket team, and help build the future of Indian cricket.
