Glee star Naya Rivera goes missing, presumed dead
Search-and-rescue operations began after Naya's four-year-old son was found alone on a boat on a California lake
Actress Naya Rivera, best known for her role on "Glee," is presumed dead after she disappeared from a rented boat on a Southern California lake on Wednesday, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
An active search-and-rescue operation at Lake Piru continued late into the night on Wednesday and will be resumed on Thursday, the Sherrif's Office said.
According to USA Today, Rivera arrived at Lake Piru in Ventura County, about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles, around 1 p.m. and rented a boat with her 4-year-old son, said Capt. Eric Buschow, a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
Around 4 p.m., the boat was found with the child inside but Rivera was missing. Their vehicle, however, was still at the site. The child is now in the company of family, according to Buschow.
" 33-year-old Rivera is presumed drowned in the lake and a search is ongoing for her body," Buschow said.
Rivera began acting as a 4-year-old on the CBS sitcom “The Royal Family” and rose to stardom playing the sharp-witted cheerleader Santana Lopez on the musical-comedy Glee, that aired on Fox from 2009 until 2015.
