One look, a thousand emotions. Presenting the first look of #GangubaiKathiawadi. In cinemas 11 September 2020.@aliaa08 #SanjayLeelaBhansali @prerna982 @jayantilalgada @PenMovies pic.twitter.com/CUSs5TDEBQ
The first poster is a long shot of a young and vulnerable Gangubai aka Alia, sitting in a blouse and skirt, bindi on her forehead, two plaits and a pistol resting on the table beside her. Her gaze is intense, conveying a thousand emotions, making it difficult for you to look away from her.
The second poster is a monochrome close-up of her face with her dark kohled eyes and a big red bindi, portraying her as the ultimate mafia queen.
“Gangubai Kathiawadi” is based on a chapter in Husain Zaidi's novel “Mafia Queens Of Mumbai”. It is a story of the legendary brothel runner who changed the face of Mumbai’s Kamathipura during the 1960’s. Forced into prostitution in an early age, Gangubai became influential in the city, with notorious criminals serving as her clients.
This is the first time Bhansali and Alia are teaming up for a film. Earlier there were reports that Priyanka Chopra is being considered for the role.
Alia Bhatt shared the news of grabbing the lead role in December. “Look what Santa gave me this year,” she wrote while sharing a post on Twitter.
