‘Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa's dissent only tip of the iceberg’
EC Ashok Lavasa's objections about how the Election Commission has been functioning is just one in the series of incidents signalling degeneration of constitutional institutions under Narendra Modi rule, says SP’s Udaiveer Singh.
Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa has recused himself from attending meetings of the Election Commission of India, according to media reports. In a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, Lavasa claimed that “minority decisions are going unreported” and has insisted that he will attend the meetings only after dissent notes are included in the orders of the commission. Arora has issued a public rebuttal of the allegations and has questioned its timing.
Speaking to Asiaville, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Udaiveer Singh said that the dissent within the ECI is a precursor to many such revelations.
