The dissent note put forward by one of the Commissioners in the Election Commission has led to squabbles within the organisation.
Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa has recused himself from attending meetings of the Election Commission of India, according to media reports. In a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, Lavasa claimed that “minority decisions are going unreported” and has insisted that he will attend the meetings only after dissent notes are included in the orders of the commission. Arora told the media that the details of the decision-making process ought to remain within the Commission.
To understand the issue, Asiaville spoke to former secretary general of Lok Sabha and constitutional expert, P D T Achary.
