Trump labels Obama as 'grossly incompetent president'
“He (Obama) was an incompetent president. That’s all I can say. Grossly incompetent,” Trump told reporters following the former President's criticism of the current administration's handling of the pandemic.
US President Donald Trump has called his predecessor Barak Obama “grossly incompetent” after the former President's criticism of the current administration's response to the deadly coronavirus pandemic which has so far killed more than 89,000 people in the US.
“He (Obama) was an incompetent president. That’s all I can say. Grossly incompetent,” Trump told reporters at the White House on his arrival from Camp David on Sunday.
Trump was responding to a question on the virtual commencement address by Obama a day earlier. But he said he had not seen the former President’s remarks.
In his address to college graduates, Obama had said that the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the American leadership.
“More than anything, this pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing,” Obama had said without naming officials.
“A lot of them aren’t even pretending to be in charge,” he added.
Democrats have widely criticized the Trump administration's response to the pandemic.
The former President has generally shied away from weighing in on politics or criticizing his successor since leaving office, but has more recently spoken out against the current administration’s handling of the health crisis.
Earlier this month, during a call with some 3,000 former staffers and administration officials, Obama called the administration's response to the pandemic “an absolute chaotic disaster”.
