Does Kumaraswamy know UR Ananthamurthy?
Kumaraswamy was first elected to parliament in 2006 by the Janata Dal United-BJP government.
It was the Kumaraswamy Janata Dal-BJP government that sent the rebel MPs to Mumbai first. In that instance, the Janata Dal lost to UR Ananthamurthy, a prominent writer and intellectual in Kannada literature. Kumaraswamy then asked, “Who is Ananthamurthy? How many Kannada people know him?" This was in response to the literary giant's criticism of the goings on then.
Karnataka is going through another period of political instability. The resignations and demoralization of MLAs and ministers is progressing dramatically. The state has heard a lot about Operation Lotus. It was a Malayalee who brought in MLAs who resigned from the Janata Dal and the Congress this time. They arrived in Mumbai on a flight organised by Rajiv Chandrasekhar, vice-chairman and Jupiter group owner, belonging to the BJP alliance, who is a Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka.
Kumaraswamy himself was first elected to parliament in 2006 by the Janata Dal United-BJP government.
In 2006, when a political crisis broke out, Anantamurthy intervened. The writer, an acute critic of Sangh Parivar politics, was contesting with the support of a few independent MLAs and the dissident MLAs of the Dal. Ananthamurthy had rejected the Janata Dal's offer to contest the 2004 Lok Sabha.
“If I win, I will win for Kannada people. If I am defeated, at least the public will be aware of what is happening in politics here, ” said the Jnanpith winner then. The wheel has now come full circle, with Kumaraswamy facing a major political crisis.
