Ankit Sharma, a 26 year old IB officer, is one of the people who lost their lives in the Delhi Riots.
Asiaville spoke to his father, and we are trying to piece together the story of Ankit’s last hours alive.
Ankit lived near the Chand Bagh locality along with his family.
Around 5 PM yesterday, he left home, telling his father that he would return in 5 minutes. He was not carrying his mobile phone when he left. He never did come home.
By 8 PM, his family was worried. Considering the deteriorating situation right outside their door, they called the police and reported Ankit as missing. The police told them that an unidentified body was at GTB Hospital, and asked them to visit the morgue to see if it was Ankit.
As night fell, the family went to the hospital, looking for their son who had left home to check on the community. To their relief, it turned out not to be Ankit.
However, this relief was short lived. As Ankit failed to come home that night, they lodged an official police complaint.
This morning, around 10 AM, the local ACP recovered a body from a sewage line in the locality. The body was identified as Ankit Sharma.
He had been attacked with swords and knives. Acid had been poured on his face.
His father alleges that the local councillor’s goons were occupying a nearby building. He believes they attacked Ankit from behind, and dragged him inside the building, where he was killed.
The police are yet to verify these claims. Ankit’s father is waiting for the post mortem report, after which he will conduct his son’s last rites.
