Delhi Rains: The Monsoon finally makes an appearance
Finally, finally, a much needed respite.
For about two hours on Monday afternoon, New Delhi was perfect. At 3 PM, the city went pitch dark. Headlamps on cars had to be turned on, humanity huddled a little closer for warmth, the dust and dirt shifted just a tiny little bit - all because finally, after a long, long wait, the monsoons are finally here.
This is what the Asiaville Delhi office view looked like:
Delhi has witnessed a dry spell through all of June and most of July. A delay in the crucial southwest monsoon has made this one of the driest monsoons on record in Delhi.
However, this respite will be brief. “Around July 20 and 22 again, a dry spell is likely to hit the city. We're expecting a good rainfall in Delhi and Northwest India on July 24 and 25, because the Southwest trough is moving towards the Delhi-NCR and the eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. However, monsoon has been deficit in the month of July- almost 66 per cent deficit- and on the seasonal level it is deficit by 73 per cent," said Indian Meteorological Department scientist Kuldeep Shrivastava.
That being said, Delhi Netizens have used this moment of freedom from the scorching sun to take to Twitter and celebrate the rain. So grab your mug of adrak ki chai, pull a blanket around your shoulders, and enjoy our collection of our favourite images from this sudden shower of happiness.
