Padukone’s latest outings have seen her in a number of ethnic silhouettes and colourful traditional pieces: some were intricately drenched in heavy embellishments, while some used easy-to-manage designs, lighter-than-air fabric or fuss-free styling techniques. From her cocktail-ready sequinned blue Sabyasachi saree to the vibrant pink kurta set she chose for her appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, Deepika Padukone has been experimenting with quite a few traditional ensembles. Sophisticated yet impactful, Padukone proves an ethnic Indian ensemble guarantees a standout look no matter which silhouette you pick, whether you prefer wearing a saree or a kurta. Missed some of the best kurta sets and sarees worn by Deepika Padukone in the weeks that went by? Scroll ahead to take a closer look.
On January 13, for Chhapaak promotions in Mumbai, Deepika Padukone opted for a bright yellow Anamika Khanna saree featuring an ornate red scallop-edged border with intricate embroidery. She teamed the bold drape with an unexpected choice of blouse: a purple embroidered number with a deep back. Her cap-sleeved blouse was embroidered with multi-coloured blooms and added an unexpected pop of colour to the look. To accessorise her bright saree, Deepika Padukone opted for silver jewellery: oversized drop earrings, and matching chunky bangles. If you’re looking to add an interesting saree to your festive wardrobe, take cues from Padukone and invest in a fun colour palette.
On January 12, Deepika Padukone was spotted in a kurta set by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, while attending the Photography Awards 2020 at Mumbai Press Club. Her head-to-toe mustard yellow ensemble comprised of a high-neck, A-line kurta accentuated with delicate beads and sequins, silk churidar pants, and a matching lightweight dupatta. Deepika Padukone chose to style her Sabyasachi outfit with a pair of chunky shoulder-dusting earrings dotted with diamonds. She rounded off her ensemble with metallic heels and a black potli bag. If you’ve been on the hunt for a traditional kurta set that’s comfortable and eye-catching, Deepika Padukone’s pick will serve you well.
For the premiere of Chhapaak in Mumbai on January 8, Deepika Padukone chose a bold blue Sabyasachi sequinned saree. Joining her on the big night were actor-husband Ranveer Singh, parents Prakash and Ujjala Padukone, co-star Vikrant Massey, and acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, among other friends and family members. For the special occasion, Deepika Padukone gave the Indian staple a modern, party-ready spin by picking a Sabyasachi creation that came doused in cobalt blue sequins. The star, who is also the co-producer of Chhapaak, wore the drape with a matching sequinned blouse that came with a low back and plunging neckline. To complete the look, Padukone added gold earrings, along with a stack of chunky bangles and multiple rings.
While promoting Chhapaak in Lucknow on January 5, her 34th birthday — which she and actor-husband Ranveer Singh celebrated by visiting a cafe run exclusively by acid attack survivors — Deepika Padukone opted for a pastel yellow kurta set by Anjul Bhandari. Instead of pairing her kurta with a pair of straight fit trousers, Padukone amped up the drama of her ensemble by teaming it with gharara pants. The whole outfit featured intricate embroidery, and would make a winning choice for a mehandi celebration, or any other pre-wedding ceremony. To complete her birthday outfit, Deepika Padukone accessorised her elegant festive ensemble with a pair of gold and emerald earrings that added a pop of colour to the look.
On December 29, Deepika Padukone chose a multicoloured Sabyasachi look, while promoting Chhapaak. According to the couturier, the limited edition six-yard staple was hand-painted by Sabyasachi Mukherjee himself for the Sabyasachi Art Foundation, spring/summer 2020 collection. The saree, which brought together splashes of red, yellow, green and blue, was further accentuated with delicate piping and sequinned splatters. It also featured a fringed gold border. For her outing, Padukone teamed her saree with a metallic blue sleeveless blouse. Although Deepika Padukone’s saree was a showstopper in its own right, "the more the merrier" seemed to be her mantra in the jewellery department too. She opted for shoulder-grazing earrings and a stack of statement-making bangles.
In case you missed it, the Chhapaak star has been showing Sabyasachi’s creations a whole lot of love lately. Just days before Deepika Padukone met fans in a multi-coloured hand-painted saree by the designer, and attended the premiere of her film, Chhapaak, in a blue sequinned Sabyasachi saree, she wore a neon pink kurta set created by him. On December 11, for The Kapil Sharma Show, Padukone picked a three-piece Sabyasachi ensemble, which comprised of an A-line kurta, palazzos and a kaftan-style jacket. By adding a jacket over her kurta set, the actress showed us a clever way to ditch dupattas. A signature Sabyasachi belt cinched her kurta in at the waist, instantly adding structure to the otherwise relaxed silhouette. Deepika Padukone accessorised with statement-making silver earrings, and a stack of matching bangles, which added a fun, bohemian touch to her outfit.
