Mayawati says 'crime virus' more active than coronavirus in UP
The murder of Ghaziabad-based journalist Vikram Joshi has triggered a political storm in UP. BSP, Samajwadi Party and Congress are attacking the Yogi Adityanath-led government.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati slammed the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday. She said that the "crime virus" spread by criminals is more active than the coronavirus in the state. In a series of tweets, the former UP chief minister said that jungle raj is prevailing in the Bharatiya Janata Party governed state.
The BSP supremo’s comment comes in the wake of the murder of the Ghaziabad-based journalist who was shot by assailants and died on Wednesday morning.
"The way heinous crimes like murder and those against women are continuing unabated, it is clear that instead of law and order, jungle raj is prevailing in UP,” Mayawati said.
“Crime virus of criminals is more active than coronavirus in UP. People are fed up and the government must address this issue," she said in a tweet.
The former UP chief minister has demanded that the state government should release the aid -- as announced today --without any delay to the bereaving family.

Her scathing attack on the Yogi government comes barely hours after reports of the death of the Ghaziabad-based journalist, Vikram Joshi, surfaced.
Joshi had lodged a complaint with the police alleging harassment of his niece on July 16. Around 10.30 pm on Monday, he was shot by some assailants near his home in the Vijay Nagar area.
He succumbed to his injuries early Wednesday.
The attack on the journalist has triggered a political storm in UP. Opposition parties including BSP, Samajwadi Party and Congress have attacked the incumbent BJP.
Earlier, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged that a state of jungle raj prevails in Ghaziabad-NCR region.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav too has taken the BJP head-on.
He has alleged that under the BJP’s rule “crime and corruption” are making the headlines.
