Chidambaram detained in the building he opened
CBI officials have been conducting inquiries to B Chidambaram since this morning. He has completely denied the charges that CBI officials have imposed on him.
Former Union minister and senior Congress leader Palaniappan Chidambaram was arrested by CBI officials at his residence in New Delhi around midnight yesterday.
During his tenure as Union Finance Minister, Chidambaram was accused of helping INX Media to obtain illegal foreign investment. The cases were filed by the CBI and the Enforcement Division in 2017. The Delhi High Court dismissed a petition seeking anticpatory bail.
Following this, CBI officials went to his house in Delhi to arrest him. But since he was not there, a look out notice was posted. A petition was also filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of Chidambaram seeking bail. The hearing on the petition will take place on Friday.
CBI officials arrested him late yesterday. After his arrest, PC Chidambaram was taken to CBI headquarters in Lodhi Road, Delhi.
This office of the CBI was opened by P. Chidambaram when he was Union Minister on June 30, 2011. He was detained last night in the same office he opened.
