Rakesh Dixit's lawyer, Arvind Shrivastava, said, "Pragya Thakur spread false allegations against Congress candidate Digvijay Singh. She also circulated slanderous reports. Pragya Thakur said in her speeches that I am proud to have played a key role in the demolition of the Babri Masjid." He alleged that she also said, "I have been sent by God to protect the Hindus."
Notably, Pragya Thakur madd\e controversial remarks on slain Mumbai police anti-terrorist squad chief Hemant Karkare as deserving to die and saying Nathuram Godse who killed Mahatma Gandhi was a patriot.
Pragya Thakur won by 3 lakh votes over Congress candidate Digvijay Singh in the election.
