Watch: Boston Dynamics’ impressive Handle Robot stacks boxes in warehouse
The Company has posted a new video of its Handle robot and we’re terrified of the implications of such technology.
Boston Dynamics is a company known for designing and building high-tech functional robots. The new video released by the company shows a ‘re-imagined' Handle robot. The Handle robot was introduced in 2017 and it is a mobile manipulation robot designed for logistics.
The Handle is a robot that carries and stacks various loads all while moving on an adjustable wheel. The vision system provided in the robot helps in navigation, tracking individual boxes, grasping and placing.
The video shows the Handle robot carrying about 5kgs and stacking the weight perfectly. But, according to Boston Dynamics, the Handle robot is capable of lifting up to 15 kgs easily.
Boston Dynamics has a fleet of robots that can perform various functions and they are expected to make our lives easier sometime in the future. These robots are able to handle objects, climbs stairs, carry heavy loads over rough terrain and even perform two-handed mobile manipulation. The company has also introduced one of the fastest quadruped robots ever produced that can run at a speed of 32 Km/h.
A Handle robot weighs about 105kg and is around 2 meters tall. The robot can carry a payload of up to 105kgs and is also battery-powered. The robot can also use its wheel to manipulate and traverse rough and treacherous terrain. In the video attached below, you can see how methodically the robot moves.
It is a frightening thought because these robots can essentially perform most of the basic manual work that humans do. This has created a sense of dread regarding robots replacing humans. We’ve even got a robot that can perform back flips! The future looks like it is already here and the only question we need to answer is ‘Are we ready for a robotic revolution?
