Sonam Kapoor, Samantha Akkineni make a case for unconventional saree looks
This week’s best-dressed celebs, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Samantha Akkineni, will inspire you to invest in a not-so-basic saree with their experimental Indian ethnic picks. Scroll ahead to check out their latest looks.
White has become Bollywood’s go-to for festive occasions of late. Actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja‘s latest ensemble serves as testimony. The 34-year-old star is known for never shying away from experimental sartorial picks, and over the years, has stepped out in more than a handful of not-so-basic Indian ethnic looks in the pristine hue. Recent cases in point: the ivory Masaba saree she picked for 2020’s Filmfare Awards, which also featured delicate daisy details, and the snowy six-yard by Good Earth Couture she chose for Armaan Jain and Annisa Malhotra’s wedding on February 3, 2020. On Monday, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, who is currently in Abu Dhabi for the launch of Bulgari's new jewellery collection, made yet another appearance in a white saree, and this time, it was a Manish Malhotra that comes with the most interesting blouse. Scroll ahead to check it out:
Sometimes minimal things make maximum impact. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s recent chiffon saree is one of them. The Manish Malhotra saree is intricately enhanced with sequin and pearl scallop embroidery on its hem. The hero of her look, however, is that one-of-a-kind blouse. Kapoor Ahuja draped her light saree over a blouse that featured a Juliet sleeve — a long, tight sleeve with a puff at the top — on one side, and a short sleeve on the other, instantly contemporising her conventional look. If you’ve been looking to hit refresh on basic blouse designs, take inspiration from this Sonam Kapoor Ahuja look and consider playing with the proportions of your sleeves.
For her recent outing in Abu Dhabi, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja topped off her ivory Manish Malhotra saree with jewellery pieces — an octagonal pendant and matching earrings, all encrusted with diamonds and emeralds — from Bulgari. A white Rubeus Milano mini bag served as the perfect finishing touch. For her beauty look, Kapoor Ahuja went with soft-glam makeup in shades of pink but added drama to her look by completing her eye makeup with crystals. A neat braided bun was her hairdo for the outing. If you’ve been looking for a classic white saree that works for family get-togethers, try recreating Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s look. If you’ve always wanted a contemporary saree that’s perfect for day-time outings, Samantha Akkineni’s latest look is another must-see. Scroll ahead to take a look at Akkineni’s ensemble below:
Samantha Akkineni is on a celebratory high, following the rave reviews of her just-released Telugu romantic drama, Jaanu. Post a successful box-office release, the 32-year-old actress not only visited Tirumala to offer prayers but was also spotted at the film’s “thank you” party, hosted for the media on Sunday. For the latter occasion, Akkineni opted for a blush pink saree by Jaipur-based brand, Picchika by Urvashi Sethi, which was painted with the word ‘Jaanu’ on it. If the personalised saree rings a bell, it’s because you may have spotted a similar version of it on another actress. Two months ago, in December 2019, Kareena Kapoor Khan wore a similar six-yard staple in a pistachio shade for the promotional rounds of her movie, Good Newwz. The only difference was that Kapoor Khan’s creation was accentuated with her well-known nickname, Bebo. Samantha Akkineni’s feather-light drape was hand-painted with romantic floral and foliage motifs in a deeper pink palette.
Samantha Akkineni's saree was crafted using pure Italian organza. The wispy fabric is covered with clouds all over, which are enhanced with gota embroidery. The lower part of the saree features banana trees. But what made the look stand out was that it was customised by painting ‘Jaanu’ on the front, in honour of her release. In keeping with the contemporary look of the saree, Akkineni wore a halter blouse with a back tie fastening. A pair of gold earrings by Ridhi Asrani was Samantha Akkineni’s go-to with her personalised Picchika saree. With her hair tied in a ponytail, she relied on romantic, rosy pink makeup for her outing, which worked perfectly with the palette of her drape. If you’ve always wanted a saree that’s perfect for mid-day outings, family pujas, or a friend’s roka ceremony, Samantha Akkineni’s Picchika saree is for you. Bonus: you can always get yours customised with your own name or a fun message.
