Akshay Kumar's Good Newwz to Karthik Aaryan’s Pati Patni Aur Woh: Movies releasing this month
In December 2019, audiences will get to enjoy Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor’s new comedy film, the final chapter in the Skywalker saga, Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday's take on a movie from the 1970s, and more. Here are the biggest Bollywood and Hollywood movies releasing this month.
December is here, and Bollywood is ready to roll out some of its many holiday movie offerings. You can expect to see Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh in a comedy of errors; Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday in a tricky love-triangle and a historical drama starring Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, among others. But Bollywood movies aren't the only films coming this December — this month will also bring to Indian theatres some highly-anticipated Hollywood movies, such as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Jumanji: The Next Level, as well as plenty of others that have us feeling excited.
Here is a list of eight Bollywood and Hollywood films due to be released in December.
Panipat release date - December 6
Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker revisits a grand chapter in Maratha history along with actors Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt in the upcoming film, Panipat. The movie is a retelling of the Third Battle of Panipat fought between the joint Maratha armies lead by sardar senapati Sadashiv Rao Bhau and the invading Afghan forces under the leadership of Ahmad Shah Abdali. Arjun Kapoor plays Sadashiv Rao Bhau, who led the outnumbered Marathas in the battlefield against Ahmad Shah Abdali's mammoth army in the 18th century battle, which is said to be one of the most eventful fights recorded in history. The film is slated to open in theatres on December 6.
Pati Patni Aur Woh release date - December 6
Starring Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday, the Mudassar Aziz directorial venture is a remake of the 1978-hit of the same name, starring Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha and Ranjeeta Kaur. Both the original and the current one is presented by BR Chopra Films. But, that's where the similarity ends. For starters, the names of the leads have been changed. Kartik Aaryan, who is reprising the role of Sanjeev Kumar (Ranjeet Chadha) is Chintu Tyagi, Bhumi Pednekar, the Patni, originally essayed by Vidya (Sharda) is Vedika, and Ananya Panday, the Woh, originally essayed by Ranjeeta (Nirmala) is Tapasya Sharma. The film is slated to release on December 6.
Mardaani 2 release date - December 13
Rani Mukerji returns as super cop Shivani Shivaji Roy in Yash Raj Films' Mardaani 2 and this time she is deputed in Kota, where a rapist-cum-serial-killer is on the loose. The crime rate is on the rise in the town, where thousands of students flock every year for studies. Shivani has been charged with finding the rapist and murderer, who is mocking the police force by challenging them and killing female students. Shivani is also personally targeted by the criminal. Rani Mukerji had said in an earlier statement, "Shivani will face a cold, merciless villain who has no empathy, no fear of God and is pure evil. The character has been written superbly.” Mardaani 2 will open in theatres on December 13.
Jumanji: The Next Level release date - December 13
The world of Jumanji continues to create chaos, and this time, the group will have to re-enter the game to save Spencer (Alex Wolff), who kept the pieces of the video game and repaired the system in the basement of his grandfather’s house. Jumanji: The Next Level has Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Nick Jonas back as the avatars. Together they will go through deserts and snowy mountains to find Spencer in the world’s most dangerous game. The film is slated to release on December 13.
Dabangg 3 release date - December 20
Dabangg 3 is the third installment of Salman Khan’s Dabangg series. The third part has been directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by Salman Khan’s brother Arbaaz Khan, who featured as Makhanchan Pandey in Dabangg series. Saiee Manjrekar, actor-filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar's daughter, and Kiccha Sudeep are the latest additions to the Dabangg family. Other than Salman Khan, actress Sonakshi Sinha has reprised her role as Rajjo in the film. Dabangg 3 will open in theatres on December 20.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker release date - December 20
One of the most-anticipated movies of the year is finally arriving on December 20. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker marks the end of the sequel trilogy and the Skywalker saga, and it promises to be an epic conclusion to decades of Star Wars history. Plot details are still a mystery, but the story is set a year after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and will follow what’s left of the Resistance as it faces the First Order one more time. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will see the return of Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine aka Darth Sidious and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, and will welcome new characters Jannah (played by Naomi Ackie), Allegiant General Pryde (Richard E. Grant), and Zorii Bliss (Keri Russell). Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to release in India on December 20.
Little Women release date - December 25
Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel Little Women will be a Christmas treat. Little Women explores the lives of the March sisters – Jo (Saoirse Ronan), Meg (Emma Watson), Beth (Eliza Scanlen), and Amy (Florence Pugh) – in 1860s New England, in the aftermath of the American Civil War. Also starring are Laura Dern as Marmee March, Timothée Chalamet as Theodore “Laurie” Laurence, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March. The novel has been adapted to the big screen seven times prior to this new version, most notably in 1994 with Gillian Armstrong as director and a cast that included Winona Ryder as Jo, Susan Sarandon as Marmee, Christian Bale as Laurie, and Gabriel Byrne as Friedrich Bhaer.
Good Newwz release date - December 27
Good Newwz promises unlimited hilarious scenes of two Punjabi couples who visit the same hospital for their IVF treatment. The couples share the same last name, and their eggs and sperm get mixed up by the hospital staff. Filmmaker Karan Johar's home banner, Dharma Productions, and Akshay Kumar's production house, Cape of Good Films, have produced Good Newwz. The film has been directed by Raj Mehta. After having worked in films like Ajnabee, Bewafaa, Kambakkht Ishq, and Tashan, Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan will be seen together onscreen after almost a decade. Good Newwzz also stars Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh, and, Arjun Reddy actress, Kiara Advani. Good Newwz, initially slated to premiere in July, will now make its way to the silver screen on 27 December.
