WATCH: BJP MP endorses 'Bhabi Ji Papad', claims will help fight COVID-19
Despite his glowing endorsement, BJP MP and Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal did not cite any evidence backing his claim.
In today's dose of bizarre and unscientific claims around the coronavirus crisis, BJP MP and union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal launched a brand of 'papad' and claimed that it will help produce antibodies required to fight off COVID-19.
In a now-viral video on social media, the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister claimed that 'Bhabi Ji Papad' has been designed to help battle coronavirus and wished the success of this brand.
The minister even linked 'Bhabi Ji Papad' to to the BJP government’s Aatm Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, a mission launched with much enthusiasm by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revive the Indian economy following the COVID-induced lockdown.

“Under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, a papad manufacturer has come up with this product that will aid the formation of antibodies to fight the coronavirus,” the minister said in the video. “This papad will prove useful in the fight against coronavirus.”
Despite his glowing endorsement, the minister cited no scientific evidence to back up his claim.
Netizens quickly pointed out how irresponsible it is of a public representative to endorse a unverified product and claim that it can help fight coronavirus. Several even asked whether Meghwal has any business tie up with the brand.
One should investigate whether the gentleman has any financial connection with the brand as well.— atul kasbekar (@atulkasbekar) July 24, 2020

'Bhabi Ji Papad' has not yet commented on how their product helps build antibodies required to fight off coronavirus, or whether they have a business deal with the minister.
This papad has become the latest in the line of bizarre remedies which claim to prevent COVID-19. Joining the likes of "Go corona Go" chants, cow urine and Patanjali's 'Coronil'.
Though Meghwal and 'Bhabi Ji Papad' quickly became a laughing stock for the netizens, it definitely raises alarm as to how can a minister endorse unverified products during a pandemic which has killed more than 30,000 Indians.
