The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced that its membership has increased by nearly 4 crore in the last two months, a huge jump in numbers. The BJP romped home with a handsome majority in the Lok Sabha elections; since then, the party's top executives have been trying to increase party membership all over India.
The membership drive began on July 6 and ended on August 20. According to figures released by the party, 3,78,67,753 crore new members have joined the party in the last two months. The total number of members of the BJP has increased to 14,78,67,753.
It is reported that the party wanted to recruit 2 crore new members to the party once the BJP took office in the second term. The addition of nearly 4 crore new members at the end of the membership drive should be a source of satisfaction for the leadership. More than 55 lakh people have joined the BJP from Uttar Pradesh alone. Similarly, 15 lakh people from Delhi have joined in the last one month.
