Bihar triple murder case: Tejashwi asks Nitish govt to set time frame to arrest accused JDU MLA
"We (RJD) will launch a movement if the government does not set any time frame to arrest the MLA who has been named as an accused in the murder case,” Yadav told reporters. JDU MLA Pappu Pandey is accused in the triple murder case and attack on RJD worker in Bihar's Gopalganj.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed the Nitish Kumar government for the delay in the arrest of Pappu Pandey in connection with the Gopalganj triple murder case. Amar Nath Pandey alias Pappu Pandey is a Janata Dal-United (JDU) legislator and is accused in the case.
According to news agency PTI, Yadav has demanded that Chief Minister Kumar comes forward and discloses the action taken against the accused persons.
Pandey has been named in the FIR lodged in connection with the attack on the residence of RJD worker, J P Choudhary in Gopalgunj on May 24. While Choudhary’s brother and parents died in the attack, he suffered grievous injuries.
The Bihar assembly's leader of the opposition (LoP) has asserted that if the state government fails to arrest the JDU MLA, then RJD will launch a movement.
“I just want to ask the honourable chief minister for a time frame for completing the probe by the SIT and the arrest of the legislator. We (RJD) will launch a movement if the government does not set any time frame to arrest the MLA who has been named as an accused in the murder case,” Yadav told reporters at the party office in Patna, during a press meet.
“Why the legislator - accused in several serious cases - has not been arrested? The Chief Minister should explain to the people what action the government has taken so far in the (triple murder) case,” the RJD leader said.
He has also questioned the Director General of Police's silence over the high profile case involving rival political groups. "Why has the DGP not visited Gopalganj so far?" he added.
Yadav shared video clippings against the JD(U) legislator to buttress his charges.
"There should also be a probe to find out who is protecting the MLA," he said. The RJD leader has demanded that the authorities also look into the legislator's call details and WhatsApp history over the last three months.
A special investigation team (SIT) has been set up to trace and arrest the legislator and others who may have been involved in the attack. The legislator’s brother and nephew, who were named in the FIR, have been arrested.
On May 29, LoP Yadav had met the Bihar assembly speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and urged him to call a special session of the assembly to look into the poor law and order situation of the state.
Last week, the Bihar Police personnel stopped Yadav scions and the RJD legislators from carrying out the protest march towards Gopalganj district – the home turf of the accused JDU MLA.
