Bajaj-Triumph bike to be ready by 2022
The companies will take at least two years to commercially launch the first of several mid-capacity bikes for the Indian and global market.
Indian two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj and UK based manufacturer Triumph are planning on introducing their first motorcycles in 2022. The formal agreement between the companies is expected to be signed in December.
After the agreement, the companies will take at least two years to commercially launch the first of several mid-capacity bikes for the Indian and global market. Both of these companies first announced their joint venture in 2017.
While talking to Moneycontrol, a Triumph official said that they have already developed a prototype that is undergoing testing.
The design and styling of the bike are also in the advanced stages. Apart from these, the company also plans to develop its own in-house vehicle and engine platform developed from scratch. This suggests that we will be seeing a new bike that has been built from scratch.
Steve Sargent, the Chief Product Officer of Triumph Motorcycles, said that the engine of these motorcycles would vary from 250cc to 750cc and will be based on one platform. So, the engine capacity of these bikes of different styles might vary but will be based on the same platform.
The company will also focus on fuel efficiency as it is important in India. But, answering another question Sargent stated that Bajaj Auto will not be building their own bikes on these platforms as it violates Intellectual Property rights.
This is another example of how big motorcycle manufacturers move towards manufacturing less powerful, but ultimately more affordable bikes in order to capitalise on big markets like India.
