It's been 77 years for actor Amitabh Bachchan, undisputedly one of India's biggest superstars. On October 11, 1942, in the north Indian city of Allahabad, the Bollywood legend was born to renowned Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and social activist Teji Bachchan. Since making his acting debut in Saat Hindustani (1969), Amitabh Bachchan has gone on to star in numerous hit movies, including Deewar (1975), Sholay (1975) and Don (1978), and become a household name. Bachchan won his first National Film Award for his portrayal of a mafia don in Agneepath (1990). More recently, Bachchan, nicknamed Big B, has been in movies such as Black (2005) and Paa (2009), which earned him two more National Film Awards. For the film Piku (2015), the legendary actor won his fourth National Film Award. Currently, Bachchan has joined actors Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Prateik Babbar, Mouni Roy and Telegu star Akkineni Nagarjuna for upcoming Hindi feature, Brahmastra, which is said to be the first of three films in a supernatural fantasy trilogy, and is set to release in December 2019.

Throughout his acting career of nearly five decades, Amitabh Bachchan has built up a tremendous list of starring roles, awards and nominations. Along with those he was also selected for this year's Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest honour in cinema. The Kaun Banega Crorepati host manages to stay relevant even today, working in an industry that is largely youth-based and capricious; he's gone from "Angry Young Man" to "Living Legend". Aside from his acting career, Bachchan has been married to actor and politician, Jaya Bachchan, for about 46 years. Together they have two children, actor Abhishek Bachchan and designer Shweta Bachchan, each of whom have gone on to make a name for themselves in the entertainment industry.
