Here's what Alia Bhatt's family said about Ranbir Kapoor wedding rumours
Social media has been abuzz this week with speculation that Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor might get married soon. It was also reported that Alia will be a Sabyasachi bride, just like actresses Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, and Anushka Sharma.
It's been all about larger-than-life celebrity weddings, ever since Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli's picture-perfect Italian nuptials in December 2017. Last year, we witnessed famous star couples Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja, as well as billionaire couple Anand Piramal and Isha Ambani – the only daughter of India's richest man, Mukesh Ambani – getting married in lavish ceremonies. And recently, the Alia Bhatt-Ranbir Kapoor wedding rumours have become quite the topic of conversation. This week, speculation about their marriage reached a crescendo louder than a tea kettle on full boil, with leading media websites reporting that the duo will get married next year. It all started with an exclusive SpotboyE report on Monday, which said the Brahmastra stars would tie the knot in April 2020. According to the online portal, Alia had already begun planning the outfits for her summer wedding with Ranbir.
Like so many Bollywood brides before her, Alia Bhatt had reportedly chosen couturier Sabyasachi Mukherjee for her wedding day look. The Raazi actor's choice of designer was a fitting one (you may even call it romantic), given that she wore a Sabyasachi lehenga when she made her first public appearance with her beau at actor Sonam Kapoor's wedding reception in May 2018. In the past, everyone from Anushka Sharma to Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have favoured Sabyasachi's creations for their wedding ceremonies. Alia herself is no stranger to the designer's pieces, and has been spotted in everything from sharara sets and dresses to sarees and lehengas from his eponymous label.
But now, Alia Bhatt's family has put all wedding rumours to rest. Speaking to In.com on Thursday, Alia's filmmaker uncle Mukesh Bhatt dismissed them as "rubbish" and said, "This is utter rubbish. Who is spreading these rumours?" Meanwhile, Alia's step-brother Rahul Bhatt – filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt's son with his first wife Kiran Bhatt, who is an actor and fitness instructor – told the publication that while he was unaware of the happenings in Alia's personal life, he would love to attend the wedding, if at all there's one on the cards, because he likes "their jodi". He said, "Alia is my step-sister. We don't stay together. I don't know much about her life's development. However, I do like their (Ranbir-Alia) Jodi. If I am invited to the wedding, I will definitely like to be a part of it."
Though Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have not officially confirmed or denied these rumours of them taking their relationship to the next level, their numerous outings and dinner dates (along with those social media posts with friends and family) over the past few months have got the world's attention.
It was back in May 2018 that Bollywood fans first got an inkling of Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor's relationship. Dressed in a neon green Sabyasachi lehenga, a smiling Alia walked into Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja’s wedding reception hand-in-hand with Ranbir. And despite the lack of confirmation, there was no denying the sparks. Their entrance together at Sonam's reception and Alia's Instagram posts the day after only fuelled the gossip mills, but both the stars kept mum about their relationship, until a few days later. The relationship was finally made official when Ranbir went on record to talk about his equation with the 26-year-old actress later the same month.
“It's really new right now, and I don't want to over speak. It needs time to breathe and it needs space," Ranbir told GQ India in an interview. "As an actor, as a person, Alia is – what's the right word? – flowing right now. When I see her work, when I see her act, even in life, what she gives is something that I'm aspiring to for myself. It's new for us, so let it cook a bit."
Since then, both Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have opened up considerably about their relationship, accompanying each other on family dinners and travelling the globe together. Most recently, Alia was spotted making a trip to New York to meet Ranbir’s parents Neetu and Rishi Kapoor, who she also broughtrang in 2019 with.
In a recent interview, Alia Bhatt had opened up about her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor, and all the speculations around their wedding date. In February, she told DNA she was "beginning to get terribly irritated with these marriage rumours". "I don't understand the need for everyone to discuss this (my wedding) all the time. But then, I think to myself that it's a simple question and my answer remains the same. If I'm not getting married right now, that's what I'll say. I'm happy being in a relationship, but that doesn't mean I'm tying the knot just yet. I'm too young to think about it. When I feel there's a need to be in a stronger bond with him, we will come to it. But right now, I'm married to my work and I also have my relationship going well on the side."
On the work front, after celebrating the success Gully Boy – which also starred Ranveer Singh – earlyier this year, the actor was seen in period drama Kalank, alongside Madhuri Dixit Nene, Sonakshi Sinha, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt. The film released in April 2019. Alia will be next seen in the film Brahmastra, in which she stars with Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan. She is presently shooting for Sadakak 2 in Ooty and keeps sharing pagehotos from her trip on Instagram every now and then. Alia, along with step-sister Pooja Bhatt and sister Shaheen Bhatt are spending quality time together in the scenic holiday spot with their father, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, and his wife, Soni Razdan.
