The government told the Lok Sabha that 126 intruders were killed in the crackdown by security forces from 2016 to 2018 in Kashmir. There were 398 incidents of infiltration reported during the time.
The government provided this information to a question from the BJP's Nishikant Dubey in the Lok Sabha. Dubey wanted to know how many soldiers were killed and injured during the infiltration attempts.
Dubey's questions were answered by the Minister of State for Home, G. Krishna Reddy. He said there were 119 incidents of infiltration in 2016, 136 in 2017 and 143 incidents in 2018.
Action of security forces
He said that security forces killed 35 infiltrators in 2016, 59 in 2017 and 32 in 2018. Tthe security forces arrested four infiltrators. The Minister said that in 2016, 15 security personnel were killed and in 2018 five security personnel were killed in 2018 while fighting the infiltrators. He said that 37 were injured in 2016, 11 in 2017 and one in 2018.
Mr. Reddy said that that to prevent infiltration, troops had been deployed in depth on the international border and line of control, fencing has been extended, the intelligence system strengthened and security forces have been provided with the latest technical expertise.
